Bricks Are Heavy is the second studio album by California riot grrrl band known as L7, and is their most popular album, notably for the single "Pretend We're Dead." The album became a milestone in riot grrrl music.

Musical Style[]

Most of the tracks were written by Donita Sparks. The album is notable for being one of the group's heavier releases, as it focused more on an alternative/heavy metal sound. It still kept the punk elements of riot grrrl. The album is also more vulgar, with songs titles like "Wargasm" and "Shitlist."

Success[]

Much of the album's success came from the emergence of the Seattle Sound into the mainstream media, due to Nevermind by Nirvana and Ten by Pearl Jam. This helped the album's single, "Pretend We're Dead," to sell well, bringing L7 into the mainstream radios. The album reched number 1 on the BIllboard Heatseekers, even though it peaked on 160 on the Billboard 200.
